Ornamental Grasses!

These plants make a statement, they SHOUT “here I am!”
These plants are here to stay and can be used in almost any container and even a hanging basket. What makes ornamental grasses the perfect addition? They come in so many colors and styles. We have carefully selected a handful of varieties that are amazing for our area. They are considered annual grass especially when planted in a container. One or 2 could come back the following year. The ones we offer are mostly from a few varieties, some are from divisions from mother plants we grow all summer and split in the winter. A few we buy as plugs or unrooted cuttings. Grasses grow quite slow, we seed some of them as early as late October. We offer them in a large plug so you can finish these for the spring selling season. You can receive them when you begin to heat your greenhouse.
Our plugs (36 size) can go directly into a 1 gallon pot or in a mixed planter or basket.  We offer grasses for the shade or part sun like Karl Forester grass and, Millium Flashlights. Some that love full sun like Carex Red Rooster and, Juncus grass grow in a pond in container, as well as in a container with soil.  Cyperus grass likes to be wet it grows excellent in part sun in a container without holes even, also does amazing as a centre piece in a large planter, this grass can grow 7 feet or 2 meters tall.
Grass with color in the leaves like Agropyron and everyone’s favorite Red Rubrum grass. As you can see there is a grass for everyone and any location. Argrostis (bamboo grass) is in a class by itself, lots of sun and heat, when watered a lot we’ve seen them grow as long as 10 feet (3 meters) down the side of a basket.
Wanna know what my favorite grass is? I have a few…. Number 1 is Pennisetum Rupelli. It makes the most flower heads and stands up in the wind because the leaves are tough, Number 2 for part shade is the Millium Flashlights, the color is so bright, it’s a shorter grass that will pop out and draw your eyes to it, and Number 3 Agropyron, it has great leaf color and makes a good clump in one year.
Enjoy all the choices you have and plan for beautiful results.
